About Michael Nguyen

DESCRIBE YOUR JOURNEY TO REAL ESTATE.

Passive income! That’s how I began my passion for real estate. I knew the key to financial freedom was to invest in rental properties. I really enjoyed the house hunting aspect of it and can spend a whole day looking at them. I remember my first house, it was a long process and there was a lot I did not understand. However, when everything finally closed and I got the keys, it was the most exhilarating feeling I had ever felt. I thought owning your first car was amazing, this just took it to another level. I never thought I could achieve such a thing, the accomplishment was overwhelming. It was the “American Dream” people talked about. And after that first house, the next four were like buying another pair of shoes…easy-peasy.

I got my realtor license in late 2006, mostly for self knowledge to better understand the legality of real estate. Basically, I was afraid of getting ripped off! Once I had gone through a few properties my confidence grew with experience, and it will be the same for you. So I do understand the uncertainty and reluctance for a first time home buyer when starting out. For most people it is the biggest investment of their life time. The first step is always hard and challenging, but if you trust me and take that leap, you’ll be a savvy investor in no time. I believe my personal experience and past mistakes will be your gain. That’s why I am here to help. I am not looking for a quick sale, I want to truly educate and help people make a confident decision. Sales will come and go, but long lasting relationship is most important to me.

WHAT ARE THREE WORDS YOUR CLIENTS WOULD USE TO DESCRIBE YOU?

Helpful, Observant and Resourceful.

WHAT MOST EXCITES YOU ABOUT YOUR WORK?

The personal fulfillment of helping families own their homes… I also enjoy being able to create my own work schedule and the flexibility to travel. As a real estate agent, I get to put my interpersonal skills to work all the time. Sometimes it happens in the office, at networking events or just over lunch and coffee. I do admit, it can be challenging and takes discipline because no one’s telling you to clock in. However, when you surround yourself with a good team, work can be exciting. Again, I cannot stress this enough…relationship is key. The end result is all about building trust and every day presents an opportunity to do that with someone new.

WHERE CAN WE FIND YOU WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?

I am a single dad so I have my son every other weekend. We are usually outside bike riding, playing basketball or throwing a baseball around. Health is obviously important so I try to stay active by taking boxing classes. Punching the bags is a good stress reliever and they don’t hit back.

IF YOU COULD BE ANY ANIMAL, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

I like dolphins for their playfulness. They are also highly intelligent, friendly and work well together as a team.

WHAT BAY AREA CITY WOULD YOU LIKE TO LIVE IN AND WHY?

That’s hard to say nowadays. The City is changing; I guess it’s all in perspective. San Francisco is obviously the best city in the bay because of the diversity and great foods. The people here are truly happy, healthy and proud. Let’s not forget the sweeping vistas on the hills, the architectures, beautiful beaches, and year-round music and cultural activities surrounding us. It’s easy to see why so many people from all over the world come to visit and also the reason why the cost of living is so high because no one leaves. I am fortunate to have grown up here in San Francisco; however, East Bay is winning me over as well. With that said, no matter where I live, I still want to be close to The City. I guess San Francisco will always have my heart.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO A 5-YEAR-OLD CHILD IF HE OR SHE ASKED YOU WHAT THE PURPOSE OF LIFE IS?

Love, laugh, be curious. Study hard. Live the life you want and leave a little behind for someone else.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO TELL PEOPLE ABOUT YOURSELF?

I now live in Oakland, but I grew up mostly in San Francisco so I know the city pretty well. I went to Abraham Lincoln High School and also graduated from San Francisco State University. Patience, control and deliberateness would characterize my usual behavior. I laugh when I can and I don’t take things too seriously unless it requires certain attention. My relationships with others are warm, personal and lasting. I do have an intense passion for learning new things and has difficulty of putting down a good book. I am a bit of an introvert so I think a lot. I tend to listen, observe, and be more thoughtful in my words before I speak. I also strive for efficiency and practicality in all areas of my life; a high sense of satisfaction is gained by helping others and sharing my wealth.
