My husband and I had been small business owners for over a decade, but we always struggled with the idea of renting versus owning property. We put a lot of money into building and renovating our two cafes, but when COVID hit, we realized that most of that money was just going into our landlords’ pockets. One of the toughest blows was the fact that we had just opened a second shop at the end of 2019, after pouring over $250,000 into renovations. Unfortunately, it only stayed open for three months before the pandemic forced us to shut down. But out of that difficult situation came an important realization: we needed to focus on building equity and investing in our own property. We dove into the world of real estate investment, eventually became a homeowner ourselves. Through our home buying process, I became more and more interested in real estate, and being a real estate agent is just the natural next step for me to fulfill my passion in real estate.
Over the past 10 years, running our small business has honed my customer service skills, such as active listening, problem-solving, and effective communication. Additionally, being a mother of two boys – in my opinion, the hardest job in the world – has taught me patience, both with myself and with others. It has also taught me to appreciate the journey, celebrate each milestone, and stay focused on the process. I believe that these skills will translate well into my work as a real estate agent, helping me to build strong relationships with my clients and navigate the complexities of the buying and selling process with grace and ease.
